Youth homelessness: family breakdown, not poverty, pushing 20-year-olds to streets
Agnieszka Sikora, head of the Po DRUGIE Foundation, points out that homelessness among young Poles has changed — it increasingly affects young people from affluent families with mental health crises and broken relationships, rather than orphans and the extremely poor. Problems behind closed doors of ordinary homes, including mental illness and family conflict, are becoming the main reason for ending up on the street. The foundation works with homeless people around age 20 who often carry traumatic relational experiences rather than material deprivation.
