Messi bids farewell to Argentina: 208 matches, 126 goals, an era ends
Lionel Messi played his final match for Argentina — a farewell game against Benin ending in a 3:0 victory, with the captain involved in all three goals. Over 208 matches he scored 126 goals and 69 assists, won the World Cup, two runner-up finishes, and spent over 17,000 minutes on the pitch. He quit the squad in 2016 after a loss to Chile, then returned to lead Argentina to its greatest triumphs after turning thirty.
