Cold case squad identifies rape suspect in Piła after 17 years
In 2009, an unknown man attacked and raped a young woman in central Piła. The case was closed, but years later detectives from the Poznań cold case unit reopened it — biological evidence was re-examined by the Regional Criminal Laboratory in Poznań, which extracted a full DNA profile. The lead took investigators to a prison, where 47-year-old Arkadiusz W. was serving time for assault. Genetic material taken from him matched samples from the crime scene; the man was charged with rape and confessed.
