Mohenjo-daro: economic inequality declined as city grew

Researchers from Cambridge and York universities analyzed house sizes in Mohenjo-daro, one of the largest cities of the Indus Valley civilization. Results published in Antiquity suggest economic inequality there decreased over time, diverging from the pattern typical of early metropolises. The authors say the city's distinctive management approach may have been the cause.
