Thousands of unnecessary paternity cases clog Polish courts
Poland's courts receive over 3,600 paternity denial lawsuits each year, with the vast majority upheld. The cause is an outdated legal presumption that a child born shortly after divorce has the ex-husband as its father — even when the biological father is known. Work is underway to change the rules and eliminate this problem.
