CERN finds nucleons at nuclear edge have different structure than center

Scientists from the ATLAS experiment at CERN have for the first time observed that protons and neutrons located at the edge of an atomic nucleus have a different internal structure than those at its center. The discovery may lead to solving a puzzle physicists have worked on for over forty years. The results suggest that nucleon properties depend on their location within the nucleus.
