Google tests AI data center in orbit as part of Project Suncatcher

Google launched a prototype satellite aboard a Falcon 9 rocket for Project Suncatcher. TPU systems are being tested in orbit for resistance to g-forces, cosmic radiation, and extreme temperatures. The goal is to move part of AI infrastructure to space, where access to solar energy is nearly unlimited, to reduce resource consumption on Earth and avoid local community opposition. Engineers are grappling with cooling challenges and high launch costs.
