Massacre in Traetta: dark chapter of Polish Legions in Italy

On Easter Sunday 1799, Polish Legions fighting alongside the French in Italy captured Traetta. Residents attempted to surrender, but none were spared — the city was burned to the ground. A message was left on the ruins stating that Traetta had rebelled against the French army. This episode rarely appears in Polish history textbooks.
