Sea at Ko Lan turned green from phytoplankton bloom
The sea at the popular Thai island Ko Lan has turned an intense green and begun to smell unpleasant. Researchers point to a phytoplankton bloom triggered by heavy rains and flooding as the cause. Scientists warn of hypoxia, or oxygen depletion in the water. Some tourists have chosen not to swim.
