Sánchez considers early elections after housing decree defeats

Senior Spanish government members suggested Friday that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez may call early elections if two housing decrees fail in an extraordinary parliamentary session. The decrees were meant to limit evictions, protect tenants until 2030, and automatically renew rental contracts — they were announced following nationwide protests. The Catalan separatist party Junts announced opposition to both decrees, effectively sealing their rejection. Sánchez said he will not withdraw the decrees.
