Lyft pays $272.5 million settlement over driver classification

Ride-sharing platform Lyft agreed to pay $272.5 million to settle a 2020 class action lawsuit over the classification of drivers as independent contractors rather than employees. The case concerned a period when the legal question of gig economy worker status remained unresolved. Today, platform drivers are classified as contractors in the US.
