CIA toppled Iranian PM Mosaddegh for oil
Mohammad Mosaddegh became Iran's prime minister in July 1952 and quickly nationalized oil fields controlled by the British. He also sought to limit the shah's power, winning popularity among Iranians. His reforms led to a CIA-planned coup that brought him down. Billions of dollars from oil extraction were at stake.
