UODO: patient data from pharmacies may have gone to pharmaceutical wholesalers
The head of the Personal Data Protection Office is urgently intervening with the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector over a possible leak of patient data from pharmacy systems. The Office is investigating whether PESEL numbers and confidential health information were going to pharmaceutical wholesalers through special "overlays" on pharmacy software. The problem may affect nearly 40 percent of pharmacies in Poland, revealed during an investigation into price-fixing by drug wholesalers.
