Latvia arrests couple suspected of spying for Russian GRU
Latvia's State Security Service (VDD) has held two of its citizens since June on suspicion of spying for Russian military intelligence, the GRU. The pair allegedly gathered information on the Ādaži military base — a NATO headquarters in Latvia — with one suspect using a private plane to photograph the facility from the air. Authorities claim their activities may have supported Russian intelligence and sabotage groups operating in Latvia.
