California bans child marriage; still legal in 32 US states

Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law prohibiting minors from marrying in California, calling it a "long overdue step in protecting young Californians." The ban takes effect even though the practice remains legal in 32 other US states. California joins states that have completely eliminated child marriage.
