One in eight cancers worldwide caused by infections: WHO report

A new study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) found that around 2.3 million new cancer cases globally in 2024 — roughly 12% of all cases — were caused by infections. Scientists emphasize that many of these cases could be prevented through treatment or vaccines. The study was published by the WHO's cancer research agency.
