Dishwasher eco mode runs 3 hours but uses less power and water

The ECO mode required by European directive in dishwashers lasts 3–4 hours, three times longer than standard programs. The secret lies in lower water temperature — instead of heating water to 65°C, ECO uses about 45–50°C, requiring less electricity. The longer runtime compensates for lower temperature through mechanical water action, and total power and water consumption is lower than in shorter, hotter programs.
