Scientists discovered that immune cells contributing to brain damage characteristic of Alzheimer's disease may be activated in lymph nodes outside the brain before traveling to the nervous system. Blocking this pathway in mice drastically reduced neurodegeneration and preserved cognitive function. The finding points to a potentially more accessible therapeutic target for treating Alzheimer's.
