EU imports 78% of semiconductors from Asia, Commission seeks independence

More than three-quarters of semiconductors used in the European Union come from Taiwan, South Korea and China, while Europe's share in the global chip market is just 9 percent. Facing growing geopolitical tensions, the European Commission announced measures to increase its own production and reduce dependence on Asian suppliers.
