Scientists recreate proteins from 160 million years ago to fight superbugs

Researchers reconstructed fragments of immune proteins from the first placental mammals 160 million years ago using evolutionary analysis. These proteins no longer exist in modern animals, but when recreated in the laboratory showed potential against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The discovery could open a new path to developing drugs against superbugs.
