TMT telescope will not be built in Canary Islands as billion-euro offer rejected

The Thirty Meter Telescope International Organization rejected a one billion euro funding offer that was a condition for building the TMT telescope at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma. La Palma is the second-best location for telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere, after Mauna Kea in Hawaii. The decision means TMT will not be built in the Canary Islands.
