Walls of Celtic settlement Lutetia found beneath Paris hospital
Archaeologists discovered a stone and wood wall characteristic of Gallic fortifications from the late Iron Age beneath the courtyard of Hôtel-Dieu hospital on Île de la Cité in Paris. These are remains of Lutetia — the Celtic oppidum of the Parisii described by Julius Caesar in "The Gallic War," which gave rise to modern Paris. Hôtel-Dieu is the oldest continuously operating hospital in the world.
