El Niño could cause 66,000 additional deaths in Sahel region

According to Climate Impact Lab analysis, this year's El Niño could increase days with extremely high temperatures by 44 percent. The greatest threat affects Africa and Asia: Nigeria alone could see over 31,000 additional heat-related deaths, and the entire Sahel region about 66,000. El Niño, typically lasting 9 to 12 months, raises air temperatures and intensifies extreme weather.
