Zofia Schacht-Petersen, a former nun, has spoken about difficult experiences in religious life — psychological violence and exploitation. Though she has not turned away from God and still believes on her own terms, she has completely renounced the sacrament of penance. She said the decision to leave the convent was painful but necessary.
