Asian U.S. allies fear Trump will trade their security for a deal with Xi

U.S. allies in Asia — including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan — are watching with concern a possible warming between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. They fear Washington might soften its stance on Taiwan or other regional security issues in exchange for economic concessions from Beijing. None of these countries wants its security to become a bargaining chip in U.S.-China negotiations.
