August retail sales up: cars and electronics gain, clothing declines
According to GUS data, August retail sales were 3.8 percent higher than a year earlier in constant prices. The largest growth was in the automotive sector (+11.7 percent) and furniture and TV/appliance sales (+10.6 percent). Pharmaceuticals and cosmetics sales also rose, while clothing saw a marked decline.
