Rare infections in pregnancy triple autism risk in children

A Swedish study of 3.7 million people found that congenital TORCH infections (transmitted from mother to fetus) are linked to significantly higher risk of autism and intellectual disability. Children with such infection are about three times more likely to be diagnosed with autism, over seven times more likely with intellectual disability, and up to 30 times more likely with its severe form.
