Super El Niño could cause 451,000 excess heat deaths

Researchers at Chicago University's Climate Impact Lab estimate that extreme heat linked to this year's "super El Niño" could cause up to 451,000 excess deaths worldwide in six months through February 2027. Extremely hot days are forecast to increase by 44%, with Nigeria, Indonesia and Sudan most at risk. Researchers warn effects may extend well beyond the analyzed period.
