UN Assembly: leaders court Trump, but doubts grow behind closed doors
At the annual UN General Assembly, Donald Trump was again the focus of attention, with many leaders seeking to maintain good relations with him. Behind the scenes, however, discontent with his policies was growing — some leaders began preparing for a scenario in which the US loses its role as the principal architect of the global order. Some leaders explicitly stated that the ongoing war has created a serious problem for existing alliances. Diplomats speak of a growing sense that the era of Washington's dominance may be coming to an end.
