Lake Powell reaches record low water level

Lake Powell — one of the largest reservoirs in the USA — has dropped to its lowest level in history following an exceptionally dry and warm winter that failed to replenish the Colorado River basin with snow. Lake Mead also reached record lows, threatening water and energy supplies for over 40 million people. Federal authorities have taken emergency measures: pumping water from other reservoirs and reducing water releases below the dam.
