France opens talks with Latvia on nuclear protective umbrella
French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to begin negotiations with Latvia regarding that country's joining France's nuclear deterrence initiative, according to Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs. This is part of Paris's broader effort to strengthen European security architecture in the face of the Russian threat. Latvia would be among the first Baltic countries covered by France's nuclear umbrella.
