China breaks gold import record: over 1100 tons in eight months

China's gold imports reached their highest level this year in August, with the first eight months totaling over 1100 tons, according to the General Administration of Customs. The result already exceeds the entire annual import from the previous year. At the current pace, annual imports could approach 1200 tons. China's central bank purchased an additional 20.2 tons of gold in August alone.
