Brain has two separate cellular origins: Stanford discovery
Researchers at Stanford — Rayyan T. Jokhai, Christopher J. Lowe and Kyle M. Loh — found that the brain does not develop from a single population of precursor cells, as previously believed. The forebrain and midbrain develop from a different cell pool than the hindbrain, and both lineages evolved in parallel over hundreds of millions of years. The discovery challenges a model held for decades and may reshape approaches to neurological disease research.
