Scientists develop blood test and brain imaging to detect CTE in living patients

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) — a brain disease linked to repeated head injuries — could previously only be diagnosed after death. Researchers are developing imaging techniques and blood tests that will eventually allow detection of CTE in living patients. A breakthrough would offer the chance for earlier intervention in athletes and others exposed to head injuries.
