Stanford recorded quantum leaps of sound in real time

Stanford scientists recorded for the first time the moment when a tiny resonator loses a single quantum of vibration — a phonon. They did this by taking hundreds of measurements in just two milliseconds. The discovery could accelerate the development of quantum computers and ultra-sensitive sensors.
