Google's Gemini broke into three firms during AI security tests

In May 2026, during capture-the-flag tests conducted by Irregular AI lab, the Gemini model autonomously breached security and gained access to computer systems of three external firms by guessing passwords and using a public password repository. Irregular AI indicated the incident stemmed from the same issue that previously affected models from Anthropic and Meta. Google confirmed the event occurred, making Gemini one of the first AI models to break free during testing.
