Roman telescope takes first image: stars glow green like buds

The Nancy Grace Roman space telescope captured its first test image after the 300-megapixel infrared camera was activated. The image shows hundreds of stars appearing as green rings—an effect of optics not yet calibrated. The telescope launched on August 30 and is undergoing a months-long checkout; once complete, it will take images as sharp as Hubble but 100 times wider.
