Director of Ukrainian Book Institute: Books Are the Second Front

Oleksandra Kowal, director of the Ukrainian Book Institute, says Ukraine was "under occupation by Russian books" before the war, and Russia's invasion paradoxically accelerated liberation from that dependence. Kowal stresses that after the military and civilian defense, books are the most important tool of national identity. She notes that other countries may underestimate this role because they focus on military support.
