Neuralink turns thought to speech: ALS patient speaks without moving lips

Neuralink released a 23-second video of VOICE study participant Kenneth Shock, who has ALS. The man says "I love you" without moving his lips or making a sound — the N1 implant placed in his brain records activity in areas linked to speech planning, and signals are wirelessly sent to an external device, where machine learning algorithms convert them into synthetic speech resembling the patient's own voice.
