New rules for newly licensed drivers take effect September 4, 2026

Starting September 4, 2026, new rules apply to people obtaining a category B driving license for the first time. A mandatory probationary period will be introduced, along with an absolute sobriety requirement for drivers in that period and additional restrictions for underage drivers under 18.
