Global freshwater resources 42% below normal: water crisis
According to the latest World Meteorological Organization report, total freshwater resources on Earth — rivers, lakes, groundwater, glaciers and soil moisture — are 42% below the long-term average. Only one third of rivers maintained proper flow, and 36% of river basins faced severe deficit. Climate change intensifies the so-called hydrological swing: extreme droughts follow floods directly, destabilizing global water supply.
