Youngest planet discovered: Elias 2-24 b is less than a million years old

Astronomers have discovered the youngest known exoplanet to date — Elias 2-24 b, which is less than a million years old. The object orbits a young star about 450 light-years from Earth and is two to four times more massive than Jupiter. The planet was first spotted in 2017 as a gap in the star's protoplanetary disk. The discovery may help scientists understand how planets, including Earth, formed.
