Google keeps ad monopoly but must open AdX and accept antitrust monitor

Federal Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled that Google does not have to sell its advertising business but must separate its ad server for publishers from the AdX platform and introduce significant interoperability changes. The company will be overseen by an antitrust monitor for six years — the Department of Justice had requested 15 years. Google announced it will appeal the decision; previously the DOJ accused the firm of taking a 20 percent commission on ad sales through AdX.
