Rescue operation for European hamster, one of Poland's most endangered mammals

The European hamster, named Animal of the Year 2026, ranks among Poland's most threatened mammal species. The Zamość Nature Society has launched a protection initiative on farmland. Dr. hab. Joanna Ziomek from UAM in Poznań called it "a jewel of cultivated fields."
