EU court may invalidate direct marketing consent across the bloc

The Advocate General of the EU Court of Justice has issued an opinion stating that existing customer consents for direct marketing may be invalid. If the court upholds it, businesses across the EU will have to seek fresh consent to use customer personal data through business partners. This would mean significant costs and burdens for companies conducting data-driven marketing.
