Who pays when a customer breaks a jar in a store? It depends
If a customer accidentally knocks a product off a shelf, their financial liability depends on whether they were at fault. When goods fall due to customer negligence, the store can demand compensation; however, if the product was poorly stacked or the aisle too narrow, the store bears responsibility. Store employees have no right to detain a customer or force immediate cash payment.
