Scientists find false immune alarm may drive rapid aging

Researchers have determined that some severe genetic diseases linked to accelerated aging may be caused not only by damaged DNA but by an excessive immune response. When damaged DNA fragments enter the wrong part of the cell, the immune sensor cGAS mistakes them for a virus and triggers chronic inflammation, which further impairs DNA repair. The discovery opens new possibilities for treating aging-acceleration diseases.
