DNA reveals Slavic expansion from the 2nd century CE
A new method of genetic data analysis revealed that individuals buried between 150–550 CE across the territory from the middle Danube to the middle Volga show genetic similarity to later Slavic populations. The study authors hypothesize that the first noticeable phase of expansion by communities with a Slavic genetic profile began as early as the 2nd century CE — three centuries earlier than previously believed.
