Congo ebola epidemic peaks as new infection rate slows

Democratic Republic of Congo authorities have announced that the ebola epidemic underway since May has reached its peak — for the first time since the outbreak began, the pace of new infections is clearly declining. Nearly 3500 people have died in the epidemic so far. Experts are calling for continued efforts to ensure the Bundibugyo variant remains under control.
