Psychiatrist on psychosis: patient may seem calm, then kill

34-year-old Patryk killed his mother less than an hour after leaving the emergency room — doctors had examined him earlier but did not detain him because he was calm. Psychiatrist Maja Herman explains that psychosis can be deceptive: a patient may appear stable and then suddenly react to voices commanding action. "Often patients say afterward that they felt a sudden flood of insistent voices: 'Do it, do it!'" Herman says.
